People with ADHD/Learning disabilities process information differently than others do, which can lead to difficulties in learning new information or skills, and in interacting.
Children
Counselling may be helpful for parents of children with ADHD/Learning Disabilities by providing education to parents about how to work with their child’s LD. Depending on the specific LD, counselling can help parents learn about home structures that can assist with homework and behavioural concerns. Counselling is also helpful in developing a plan to work with community resources which may be of benefit to the child, and in the school setting around the child’s learning needs. Parents themselves may be concerned about how to respond positively to their child’s needs and may benefit from supportive individual, marital or family counselling. Recognizing and working with areas of strength is very important in understanding who we are as individuals and all that we are capable of, and is an essential part of the work that Frances Miller offers.
Adults
Adults also request counselling to assist in managing symptoms of ADHD or Learning Disabilities. They may have concerns related to their careers, or to mood, marital or family issues that they feel have been impacted. Individual or marital counselling are both effective methods of addressing these concerns. It is important to work with a counsellor who has experience in understanding and addressing issues related to ADHD or Learning Disabilities, and who can help find resources that may be of assistance to you. Frances may offer you experienced counselling services for Individual, Marital and Family Therapy with both adults and children experiencing ADHD or Learning Disabilities.
